Connecting a Custom Domain

Overview

By default your site lives at a fytkit.com address. On the Growth and Scale plans you can connect a domain you already own, such as www.yourstudio.com, so members see your brand in the address bar. Fytkit doesn’t sell domains — you bring one from any registrar (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare, Google Domains and so on) and point it at Fytkit with a single DNS record.

Before you start

• A domain you own.
• Access to that domain’s DNS settings at your registrar.
• A Growth or Scale plan. Owners and Admins can manage the domain.

1. Choose which address to use

www.yourstudio.com (recommended). A subdomain is connected with a CNAME record, which every registrar supports and which keeps working if Fytkit’s hosting addresses ever change.

yourstudio.com (no www). A root domain can’t use a CNAME, so it is connected with an A record instead. This works just as well; the record type is simply different.

You can connect one address per site. If you connect www.yourstudio.com, visitors who type yourstudio.com without the www will need a redirect set up at your registrar (most offer “domain forwarding” for this).

2. Connect the domain

1. In your dashboard go to Configuration → Domain.
2. Enter your domain (for example www.yourstudio.com) and click Connect domain.
3. Fytkit registers the domain and shows the DNS record you need to add. The page stays in Pending until that record is visible.

Your domain can’t include the Fytkit name or anything that looks or sounds like it, such as fitkit, fyt-kit or fytk1t. Domains with non-English characters aren’t supported yet.

3. Add the DNS record

1. Sign in to your registrar and open the DNS settings for your domain.
2. Add a new record. Copy the Type, Name and Value exactly as shown in your dashboard — use the copy button next to each value.
3. The Name field is what most registrars ask for: www for a subdomain, or @ for the root domain. The full hostname is shown underneath in case your registrar wants that form.
4. If a record with the same name already exists (for example an old A record for www), replace it rather than adding a second one.
5. Save. Leave the TTL at the default.

Extra TXT record? If the domain was previously used with another Vercel-hosted service you’ll also see a TXT record starting with _vercel. Add it the same way — it proves you own the domain and can be deleted once your domain is connected.

4. Wait for it to connect

Fytkit checks your domain automatically every few minutes and the page updates itself while it is open. You can also click Check DNS to check right away. DNS changes usually show up within minutes, but some registrars take up to 48 hours. If a domain is still not connected after 30 days, Fytkit disconnects it automatically; you can connect it again whenever you’re ready.

When the record is visible the status changes to Connected, an HTTPS certificate is issued for you, and your site is served from your domain. Your fytkit.com address keeps working too. It can take up to five minutes after the status changes for every visitor to see the new site.

Your domain shows whatever your site’s visibility is set to in Configuration → Site. If your site is set to Coming soon, visitors to your domain see your coming-soon page; if it is Off, they are sent to member sign-in.

Statuses

Removing a domain

1. Go to Configuration → Domain and click Remove domain.
2. Type the domain to confirm.
3. Your site immediately returns to its fytkit.com address. You can reconnect the same or a different domain at any time. Delete the DNS record at your registrar when you no longer need it.
